The Portland Business Journal recently named Lane Powell Vice President Tom Sondag as one of its 2022 “Executives of the Year,” an honor which is given annually to executives and C-suite leaders in the Portland area, in recognition of their outstanding collaborative leadership, community service, and career achievements.
Through his roles as Lane Powell Vice President and Partner in Charge of the Portland office, Sondag works in tandem with other leaders to provide strategic direction and set objectives for the firm. Sondag was instrumental in leading Lane Powell through a seamless transition to remote work when the pandemic began in 2020 and has had a leading role in cultivating a work environment where employees can embrace flexibility while maintaining the firm’s outstanding level of client service. Recently, Sondag also led the Portland office through a space renovation to make changes to the way the firm uses office space to prioritize collaboration and connection opportunities.
In addition to these leadership positions, Sondag also serves as Chair of Lane Powell’s Appellate Team and is a member of the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers. He has served as lead counsel in more than 200 appeals in state and federal courts and has twice been named by Best Lawyers® as Portland’s “Lawyer of the Year” in Appellate Practice and once as Portland's “Lawyer of the Year” in Bet-the-Company Litigation.
Sondag also serves on Lane Powell’s Community Engagement Committee, which helps guide the firm’s philanthropic efforts, including an annual Giving Week fundraising initiative. Lane Powell’s Portland office is consistently ranked among the top 10 corporate philanthropists by the Portland Business Journal. He is also a staunch supporter of and serves on the Advisory Committee for The Lawyers’ Campaign for Equal Justice, the support organization for Oregon’s legal aid programs.
“I’m honored to be named one of Portland Business Journal’s ‘Executives of the Year’ and thrilled to be included alongside other talented and inspiring leaders,” Sondag says.
“Tom is an exceptional leader at the firm because of his analytical mindset and uncompromising selflessness – two attributes that serve as the driving force behind all his work and leadership,” shared Lane Powell President, Barbara Duffy. “It has been a pleasure to work with Tom, as an attorney, confidant, friend, and leader. He is highly deserving of this award.”
