On a recent trip to Alaska, attorney Emily Maass spent time volunteering along with Anchorage-based attorney Mike Baylous at a FEMA Disaster Recovery Center in response to the earthquake that hit the city in late 2018. Maass and Baylous answered legal questions and helped residents fill out forms necessary to receive assistance. Maass, a Portland-based attorney, enjoyed an opportunity to use her Alaska license to assist survivors in person. The Alaska Bar Association offers programs for both Alaska licensed and out-of-state attorneys to help with earthquake relief, including an option to provide legal advice virtually through Alaska Free Legal Answers.
