On March 5, the Naa Amerley Palm Education (NAPE) Foundation welcomed nineteen more scholarship recipients to Palm Institute in Accra, Ghana. An orientation for the new students was held on March 13.
The NAPE Foundation was founded with the assistance of Lane Powell in 2006 and is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that helps provide Ghanaians with scholarships to attend Ghanaian universities. The NAPE Foundation raises money for current high school and university students and supports those seeking two-year degree programs in Business Administration, Computerized Accounting and Banking Technology, and Accounting by providing scholarships to deserving students attending the Palm Institute of Strategic Leadership. Several of the scholarships awarded were named for Lane Powell and Lee Nusich, Counsel to the Firm in the Portland office and Chairman of the Board of the NAPE Foundation, as a tribute to both Lee’s and the Firm’s support, which has been instrumental in obtaining funding for the scholarships.
Since the scholarship foundation started in 2006, a total of 67 scholarships have been awarded to Ghanaian university students. In awarding these scholarships, the NAPE Foundation considers the student’s financial need as well as his or her academic performance, demonstrated leadership abilities, community service and commitment to contribute to the community and society at large subsequent to graduation.
