Dustin O’Quinn was featured in the March 24 issue of Puget Sound Business Journal (PSBJ) in a Thought Leader Forum titled “Immigration and Employment Law Under the New Administration.” With the change in administration bringing on heightened enforcement of immigration laws, the forum aimed to discuss what employers need to know and how to be prepared for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids, the executive orders and hiring foreign workers.
Q. PSBJ: What best practices should employers follow should they have an ICE raid?
A. O’Quinn: The first thing employers should do even before an ICE audit is make sure their employees are authorized to work in the U.S. Ask yourself, “are the right visas filed with the right agencies and are all documents in order?” Learn the difference between a fraud detection site visit, versus a raid, versus an I-9 audit. It’s important to do dry runs to prepare your staff, your front desk and your employees for what to do if a raid does occur.
