Gabriela Sanchez will co-present “Death With Dignity: Right-to-Die Issues in Senior Care and Housing” at the American Health Lawyers Association’s Long Term Care and the Law program from 10:50-11:50 a.m. on Wednesday, February 24. During her presentation, Sanchez will discuss the National right-to-die movement; compare three state right-to-die laws (Washington, Oregon and California) and consider what they say (and don’t say) about the right to die in different senior care settings; how providers and staff can honor ethical objections; resident rights issues when a provider chooses not to “participate” in right-to-die decisions; data about the incidence and circumstances of assisted suicide in Washington and Oregon; whether federal funds are available for aid-in-dying; and best practices and model polices for providers who wish to participate in right-to-die decisions. The program will take place February 22-24 at the Loews Portofino Bay Hotel in Orlando, Florida.
