A career at Lane Powell means a collaborative environment where you can learn and grow professionally and personally.
We know our Associates are the firm’s future generation of leaders, and we provide the professional development, training, career guidance, and mentorship to develop and grow their leadership skills. Our Associates are given the opportunity to be involved in firm activities and initiatives early in their careers, which provides an opportunity to directly influence Lane Powell’s culture and objectives.
We believe in setting benchmarks and creating goals, and our Associate Core Competencies provide a clear roadmap for development to help our Associates succeed in their careers. Practice Team Leaders and mentors willingly serve as guides, working closely with Associates on their professional and practice development plans. Through our mentor program, new Associates are matched with a Shareholder mentor and also paired with a peer mentor who can share their own experiences as an Associate in real-time.
As proof of our dedication to the successful personal and professional lives of our attorneys, we offer a lower billable hours standard than many of our peer firms. This allows time for our Associates to focus on building a sustainable practice while supporting their well-being as well as the needs of our communities through pro bono work. Additionally, Associates are eligible to receive billable credit for up to 100 hours of time dedicated to pro bono, shadowing, and diversity, equity and inclusion efforts that support our firm vision.
Associate FAQs
What documents are requested as part of the application process?
Attorneys with six years of experience or less should submit a resume, cover letter, undergraduate and law school transcripts (unofficial will suffice), and a writing sample of their work.
More senior attorneys should submit a resume and cover letter, unless otherwise noted in the job posting.
What does the interview process entail?
We carefully curate our interview process to learn more about you and your goals. Candidates who are selected for a posted position will first participate in a screening interview with a member of our team. As they move forward, candidates will meet with members of the practice team as well as members of our Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Committee. Our goal is to introduce you to a cross-section of the firm to fully understand what it means to be a part of our team.
What is the annual billable hours standard?
Our annual billable hours standard is 1750 billable hours, and 100 of those hours can be credited for time dedicated to pro bono, shadowing, and diversity, equity and inclusion efforts that support our firm vision. Our standard is lower than many of our peer firms, and allows time for our Associates to focus on building a sustainable practice and to support their well-being as well as the needs of our communities.
What is the bonus structure?
Our bonus structure offers a discretionary merit bonus as well as an objective incentive bonus that provides additional compensation upon reaching higher hours targets.
